mentioned games are Rapture Online, Naughty America, Second Life and the
(currently paused) Spend The Night. For those who don't understand german, don't

Spend the Night, the online dating game from
developer Republik Games has suspended production due to funding issues. It's
unclear if the development will be continued at a later time, first new
investors must be found.
The press release from the company is the
following:
HOLLYWOOD—March 31, 2006 — Republik Games announced today that the company
had not completed an anticipated round of equity financing and as a result,
would be suspending production on its flagship game, Spend the Night. The
company had previously raised an undisclosed sum in two funding rounds and was
well into production of the erotically-charged game.
“The past few weeks have been a rollercoaster for the company” said
CEO, Robert Coshland. “We had a single day record of 1.8 million hits on our
website, we’re being included in a documentary on the future of video games, and
we have over 100 people join our mailing list everyday. Unfortunately game
development is expensive and attention doesn't translate into operational funds.”
Coshland indicated that 12 people were affected by the shut down. “Republik
Games intends to focus on raising new capital. It’s not just an incredible
product—it’s a solid business proposition and we have the research, the
materials, and the numbers to back it up.”

A lot of adult games for the PC and Mac are developed by people using Macromedia's
Flash development tool. The Flash community Newgrounds.com hosts a Mature
Section that consists of short entertaining games like
- memory games with naked cartoon images
- hentai-style lesbian wrestling games
- and a lot more
For example: In Sack Smash 2005 the hero must crush bad guys with his
enormous scrotum.

lot of the mature games focus on visuals and story, with simple point and click

The international Game Developers Association has founded a "Sex Special Interest Group"
(SIG) under the leading of Brenda Brathwaite.
She's a game developer with over 23 years of experience. This group demands the
right for developers to create games that reflect ALL of the human experiences
like relationsship, love, intimity and sexuality.
Hopefully these aims will
be reached !

The rating of video games can be found in the corner of any retail box. These
ratings are made by the "Entertainment Software Rating Board
- ESRB". With a pool of 40-50 part-time raters the
ESRB rates with the following codes:
E for "Everyone"
T for "Teen"
M for "Mature"
AO for "Adults Only" (sort of the same
like an X-rating)
For Example: After having detected the "Hot Coffee Mod" in "Grand Theft Auto:
San Andreas" the ESRB kicked the game from "M" to "AO" with which further
selling via retailers like Wal-Mart was no more possible.
There is an article which shows that the
ESRB rating of video games is sometimes a little bit confusing, especially
in comparison to films and TV.
