Gaming Not Ready For Sex?

Over at the Gamers Association one finds a really interesting article about the question why “Gaming Is Not Ready For Sex” and it does not focus (as usual) on the acceptance of violence in games in contrast to the nonacceptance of sexual contents but of the struggling to create truly great narratives which are a key factor to pull it off.

Some of the key sentences:

“…the very structure of games make it very difficult to create a satisfying story.”
“Gaming is focused on the gameplay experience while film is focused on the narrative.”
“Sex is a very difficult subject to approach in media. Even in film, it takes great skill to pull off a sex scene that isn’t just gratuitous body shots.”

Some examples of games are given that are “trying new and inventive ways to further connect players with their characters as well as trying new story-telling techniques”. Another example for such games is the quite new singleplayer sex game XStoryPlayer with its one-of-a-kind game concept where the story is in the spotlight combined with artificial intelligence.

The author concludes with “gaming has to grow up first for the sex to become a very interactive and personal experience”.

Well, that’s true for singleplayer sex games where incorporating sex into the story is a very hard challenge to not appear clunky and emotionless. But one is missing any word about multiplayer sex games where the game developer has not to deal with artificial intelligence, story telling and so on, here the sex initiation results from the interactive and personal experience the *real* people have with each other.
